The Breakdown

In situations like receiving a termination notice, facing high heating bills, or legal summons from Con Ed, New Yorkers have rights and resources to help with utility bill challenges.

To address this, the Public Utility Law Project (PULP) collaborated with CUP and designer Hanna Kim to create 'Shine A Light On Your Utility Rights,' a simple guide with practical steps for addressing common utility issues. PULP is actively distributing this guide across New York State to educate and assist consumers.

What its about

Choosing higher education, especially for those involved with the criminal justice system, can be challenging but transformative. Access to education is crucial for reentry into communities. However, the process can be complex with limited resources. CUP, in collaboration with the Prisoner Reentry Institute and designer Miles Barretto, created 'Is College For Me?'—a pocket-sized guide simplifying the college enrollment process, explaining degree types, schools, and resources, both during and after incarceration.

'Is College For Me?' will launch at a back-to-school workshop for PRI's Educational Initiatives program, with over 3,000 copies distributed to community members and prison partners across New York State.
